Chapter 19

DIANE WAS STILL SITTING at Salties with Jill fifteen minutes after the police left. A man and woman entered the bar. They weren’t dressed as if they hung out there. The woman had on white slacks and a blue blouse and the man was wearing a suit. It was fitted and looked very expensive.

They looked around the room and their gaze landed on Diane. She watched as they walked toward her.

“Diane,” the woman said, “we are here for you.”

“What do you mean you’re here for me?”

“Kailey wants you to come with us.”

“Just a minute,” Diane said and dialed Kailey’s private number.

“Hi Diane, are you okay?”

“I’m not sure. There is a couple here that want me to go with them. They say it’s on your orders.”

“It is. You’ll be safe. They’ll bring you to Cam and me.”

“Where are you?”

“I’m out but Cam will be waiting for you at the Galleon.”

“Okay, thanks. I’ll see you there.”

Diane hung up and thanked Jill for her help. She stood and left with her two escorts.

They were at the Galleon twenty minutes later. When they arrived at the third-floor room, one of the guards opened the door to let them in. He didn’t look too happy.

Kailey stepped out of the bedroom and saw Diane. Instead of going to her and hugging her as she usually did, she asked angrily, “Have you seen Cam?”

“No. Isn’t he here?”

“No, he isn’t. I told him not to leave. It’s too dangerous out there right now.”
